Glacier Sunset

Watercolor, ink, and digital media, 2021

"Glacier Sunset" was inspired by a summer Claire spent in Glacier National Park, in 2012. The illustration captures the colors of an alpine sunset, with beargrass wildflowers, krummholz fir trees shaped by the wind, and the park’s towering peaks. A couple embraces in the foreground.

The artwork was created using watercolor and ink, then scanned and added to digitally. "Glacier Sunset" is available as art prints and greeting cards. To shop, visit Claire’s Etsy shop.

A vibrant watercolor illustration depicts a majestic mountain bathed in the warm glow of a sunset. The mountain's rugged, snow-speckled surface is painted in cool blues and purples, transitioning to deep reds and oranges at its peak, reflecting the last rays of sunlight. Surrounding the mountain are wispy, soft clouds in hues of pink, peach, and cream. The foreground features a dense forest of pine trees, painted in a gradient of blues that contrasts with the brighter colors above. Silhouetted at the bottom of the composition are two figures, one with their arm wrapped around the other, gazing upwards at the mountain. Delicate white floral shapes rise from the foreground, intricately drawn to resemble tall, feathery blossoms. These add a whimsical touch, blending seamlessly with the surrounding natural elements. The entire scene is framed by soft, irregular borders.
