Watercolor and Ink Botanical Illustrations

Claire Loon Baldwin’s botanical illustrations are inspired by her life in Maine, and her past work in national parks like Glacier, Grand Canyon, and the North Cascades. Using watercolor, gouache, pen and ink, and digital media, Claire creates botanical illustrations that balance scientific accuracy with aesthetic beauty. Her work highlights the resilience of native plants and the ecosystems they support.

Botanical Illustrations Drawn Straight from the Source

Observing plants growing wild in their native environment is the starting point for Claire's artistic process. When she doesn't have access to living plants, she sources reference videos to see how the plants move in the wind, and interact with sunlight.

Claire's favorite wildflowers are in the Castilleja genus, a vibrant array of flowers known by their common name, ‘paintbrush’ or ‘prairie fire’, that thrive in harsh, high-alpine and desert environments.

These illustrations are available as art prints, postcards, and stickers, sold through Etsy and wholesale.

Claire also creates custom illustrations for botanical gardens, environmental nonprofits, and educational organizations. To inquire about an illustration project, send Claire an email.
