Waterfall Editorial Illustrations for Down East Magazine

In 2023, Claire Loon Baldwin created a series of detailed watercolor illustrations of iconic Maine waterfalls for Down East Magazine. Claire researched each waterfall thoroughly, referencing a wide range of photos and videos to capture both the movement of water and the structure of surrounding rocks.

In order to accelerate the process of editing and painting each illustration, Claire utilized digital techniques. The watercolor illustrations were digitally sketched, edited, then printed onto watercolor paper. Claire then hand-painted the illustrations with watercolor, and scanned and edited them. The artwork was featured in a two-page spread and marginalia in the July 2023 issue of Down East Magazine.
